Angela B. Conochalla ’63
A family legacy — The Conochalla Family Endowed Scholarship

Angela B. Conochalla ’63 <br> A family legacy — The Conochalla Family Endowed Scholarship

Angela "Angie" Conochalla's parents were local politicians who taught her an important lesson about giving back to society. They especially hoped that she would give back to the college that had shaped her life. Even though Angela struggled with a learning disability, Saint Joseph College provided the perfect environment to be successful, due to its small class sizes and individualized attention. The Saint Joseph faculty became caring advocates, most notably Sister Consolata and Sister Joseph Marks, who suggested that Angela change her major to Child Studies. Angela proudly became the first in her family to graduate from college, having gained the knowledge, experience and training to pursue a career in education. She spent 35 years in the field of education, first as a teacher, then as a school psychologist. After retirement, Angela consulted with a financial advisor about establishing an endowed scholarship with her IRA distributions and learned about the tax benefits associated with this plan. The Conochalla Family Endowed Scholarship honors the family's legacy by giving back to the community, while helping future generations of talented students to attain their academic degrees and achieve their career goals. In addition, Angela had the foresight to leave a bequest to the University, which will be directed to her scholarship fund. Her sincere wish to help USJ students has been realized with careful gift planning.
